Are you tired of the PCB design process delaying your electronics projects?

If you are a project manager or design engineer, who is about to begin a new electronics project, then you probably already have the entire project (not just the PCB design) visualised in your mind.

However, the importance of focusing on the PCB design cannot be undervalued, as it serves as the fundamental element of your electronics project.

It is crucial that the design is not delayed due to mistakes or unforeseen issues. A lot of mistakes can happen during a PCB design process, and in this blog post, we tell you how to avoid them.

Each of these seven points are elaborated in separate blogs.

Enjoy – and good luck on your project!

Figure out how complex your project is, and which IPC requirements apply.

Get familiar with the class-specific requirements and standards BEFORE choosing materials.

Don’t choose materials and thickness for the PCB, until you know the speed requirements and the frequencies the design operates at.

Know your footprints early on, as well as both physical and mechanical needs. Only then should you decide on component technology and vias.

Choose PCB type based on the design structure and complexity, along with what type of product it is designed for. Calculate impedance carefully beforehand.

Choose the surface materials that best protect your design, but at the same time isn’t too expensive, and is easy for manufacturer to handle.
